Kalyon and Cengiz Construction Begin $4 Billion Renovation Project at Damascus International Airport

An international consortium including Kalyon Construction and Cengiz Construction has officially launched a $4 billion project aimed at modernizing and increasing the capacity of Damascus International Airport.
According to Kalyon Construction, a signing ceremony was held with the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority and the Syrian Ministry of Finance, joined by Turkey’s Kalyon and Cengiz Construction, Qatar’s UCC, and US-based Assets Investments. The project includes rehabilitation of the existing airport, construction of a new terminal, apron and support facilities, and improvements in operational quality.
The project will be implemented in four phases, and upon completion, Damascus International Airport is expected to handle 31 million passengers annually over the next ten years. In the first phase, upgrades to Terminals 1 and 2 aim to increase capacity to 6 million passengers by the end of 2026.
In subsequent phases, bringing Terminal 3 online will raise capacity to 16 million, and additional future units — each capable of accommodating 7.5 million passengers — will gradually bring total capacity even higher. The Damascus International Airport project is regarded as one of the most comprehensive efforts to rebuild Syria’s aviation infrastructure.
